Saree with Hijab

Saree is an Indian traditional dress that can represent the elegant style of a woman. Saree will look good in every shape of woman body. So, you don’t have to be worry about how you will look like on your saree. You will look gorgeous, definitely!

Saree wears with Petticoat and Cholli. Petticoat is a plain skirt with a waistband to tuck the saree on. Cholli is a tightly fitted short blouse above the petticoat. There are many different styles of saree that usually different on how to tuck and wrap the saree and pallu (loose end of a saree) on the body.

What if a Muslim woman who wears hijab wants to dress up on saree? There are some modifications you need to do on a basic form of saree, which are:

1. Choose a blouse as a cholli that has long sleeves and turtle neck to cover the skin. You can choose a fitted or a little bit loose blouse. That won’t become a big problem cause the wrapped of saree will cover the shape of the body.

2. Choose a simple hijab style to cover the head. Why? Because saree already has a long garment, so the simple hijab will give you more space to move.

3. Choose a plain color hijab that has similar color or match with color of the saree.

4. You can add jewelry on your hijab as accessories besides wearing ring, necklace and.

5. Don’t forget to wear high heels because saree will look perfect with high heels, especially high heels with gold color or silver.
Well… that’s all for now. Hope I can come up with a better idea next time.

Traditional Dress from South Asia

Traditional Shalwar Kameez
SHALWAR KAMEEZ

Shalwar or shalwar kameez is one of the traditional women dress of South Asia. This dress is primarily worn by women in countries such as India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka whereas in other countries of South Asia such as Pakistan and Afghanistan, salwar kameez is worn by both women and men.

Shalwars are loose trousers like pajamas whereas kameez are like loose shirt worn above it. Traditional look of shalwar has broader legs from the top and narrow at the bottom. Although, there are several styles of shalwar pants in modern times, some trendy and jean-like. The kameez is a long shirt of tunic length which hits at the middle of the thigh, but traditionally, it would come down to the top of the knee. The side seams (known as the chaak), left open below the waist-line, give the wearer greater freedom of movement. On a female, the shalwar kameez ensemble is completed by wearing a dupatta (loose scarf) around the shoulders, draping over the chest.

Like everything changes with time, modern shalwar kameez also got some changes in design. Now day’s shalwar kameez are more fitted as compare to their traditional version. Shalwars are knotted around the waist with the help of elastic band and kameez are generally worn over it.
